Simple Process

How Book Publication Works

From your idea to a distributed book — clear steps, guided by the editorial team.

1

Submit Your Manuscript

Upload your manuscript in Word, PDF or Google Doc format — or use the Anvi-AI platform to help draft and structure chapters from an outline.

2

Editorial Review

The editorial team reviews manuscript structure, flow and completeness, with feedback typically within 24–48 hours.

3

Choose a Plan & Pay

Select from four transparent plans — Basic, Affordable, Standard or Premium. Pay via UPI, card, net banking or EMI; a GST invoice is issued immediately.

4

Editing, Design & Formatting

Professional cover design and print-ready interior formatting, with ISBN integration finalised to publication standard.

5

Author Proof Review

You receive a complete formatted proof to review in full, with correction requests included. Publication proceeds only after your written sign-off.

6

DOI Registration (Optional)

If selected, an official CrossRef/DataCite DOI is registered, giving your book a permanent academic identifier discoverable via Google Scholar and similar tools.

7

Publish & Distribute

Your book goes live per your plan's distribution scope, with ISBN (and DOI, if selected) certificates delivered. Royalty earnings begin from your first sale.

The Same Seven Steps, on a Calendar

A typical 25-day schedule. Three of the seven steps are waiting on you, not on us — authors who reply quickly finish nearer 7 days than 25.

Days shown are working days and are indicative, not contractual. A 90-page poetry collection moves faster than a 400-page textbook with 60 figures; heavy revision at the proof stage extends the schedule. Nothing is printed or listed until you have signed off in writing.

Formats

Paperback, Hardcover or Ebook — or All Three

One manuscript, three editions. Most authors start with paperback and ebook together, then add hardcover for library and institutional orders.

Paperback

The default choice. Perfect-bound with a laminated soft cover, printed on demand so there is no stock to buy and no minimum order.

  • Print-on-demand, no minimum
  • Common trim sizes: 6×9 in, A5
  • Lowest price point for readers
  • Gets its own ISBN

Hardcover

Case-bound with a rigid board cover. The edition libraries and institutions prefer to shelve, and the one authors order for presentations and departmental copies.

  • Preferred for library acquisition
  • Longer shelf life under handling
  • Suits monographs and textbooks
  • Gets its own ISBN

Ebook

EPUB and Kindle-ready files with reflowable text, so the book stays readable on a phone as well as a tablet. Delivered instantly, worldwide, with no printing cost at all.

  • EPUB, Kindle and PDF output
  • Reflows to any screen size
  • No print or shipping cost
  • Gets its own ISBN
Each format is a separate ISBN. That is the international standard, not a JW Book policy — a paperback and its ebook are two different products to a retailer's ordering system. All of the ISBNs your book needs are issued free, on every plan.

What Gets Built Around Your Manuscript

Your chapters are the middle of the object. This is everything that wraps around them — all of it produced for you, on every plan.

Send the chapters; the front and back matter get built around them during production. If you have a foreword from a colleague or a dedication you want carried, mention it when you submit — adding pages before typesetting costs nothing, while adding them after final pagination re-flows the index.
Page Size

Choosing a Trim Size

Trim size is the finished page dimension. It changes page count, print cost and how the book sits on a shelf next to others in its field. Shown here in proportion to each other.

Demy
5.5 × 8.5 in
Indian trade standard. Fiction, poetry, general non-fiction.
Popular

Textbooks, study guides, edited volumes.
6 × 9 in
152 × 229 mm
Academic monographs and thesis-derived books. The global default.
Academic
A4
210 × 297 mm
Manuals, workbooks, conference proceedings with wide tables.
If your book is…TrimBindingWhy
A thesis rewritten as a monograph6 × 9 inPaperback + ebookWhat academic libraries and reviewers expect to receive
Poetry or short fictionDemyPaperbackComfortable line length; lowest print cost per copy
A textbook with figuresA5PaperbackFits diagrams without shrinking them past readability

A gift, memorial or institutional volume6 × 9 inHardcoverCase binding survives handling and looks the part on a shelf
Anything over 600 pagesA5 or 6 × 9 inHardcoverPerfect binding starts to crack at that thickness
Trim size decides page count, and page count decides print cost. The same 80,000-word manuscript runs to roughly 320 pages at Demy and about 210 at A4. Smaller pages read more comfortably but cost more per copy to print; the editorial team will show you both figures before anything goes to press, so the choice is made with the numbers in front of you.
Distribution Reach

Where Your Book Appears

Distribution is what turns a printed file into a book somebody can find and buy. These are the channels a listing can reach.

What distribution does and does not do

Listing puts your book in front of anyone who searches for it. It does not, on its own, make people search — that is what the marketing services below are for. A realistic first year for a self-published academic title is driven by your own network: your department, your conference audience, the researchers who cite you, and the students on your reading list.

The channels reached depend on your plan. Amazon, Flipkart and the 200+ store network are included with Premium and can be added to the other plans; every plan gets a free ISBN, which is what makes a book orderable through libraries and independent bookshops in the first place.

ISBN Guide

Everything You Need to Know About ISBN

An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is the global identity of your book — a unique 13-digit code that enables libraries, bookstores, distributors and online retailers to identify, catalogue and list your publication accurately across global platforms and databases. ISBN is free with every JW Book plan.

What the 13 Digits Actually Mean

An ISBN is not a random serial number. Each block carries information, which is why it can be read by a system that has never heard of your book.

978
Prefix
Says "this record is a book". Books use 978 or 979.
93
Registration Group
The country or language area. 93 and 81 are India.
XXXXX
Registrant
Identifies the publisher — JW Book’s own allocated block.
XX
Publication
This particular title, edition and format.
X
Check Digit
Calculated from the other twelve; catches typos.

The number of digits in the registrant and publication blocks varies — a publisher issuing few titles gets a longer registrant block and fewer digits for titles, and vice versa. The total is always 13.

Do I need one ISBN or several? One per format and per edition. Paperback, hardcover and ebook are three ISBNs; a second edition with new content is a fourth. All of them are free here.
Is an ISBN the same as copyright? No. Copyright exists in your work the moment you write it and stays yours. An ISBN is a trade identifier, nothing more.
Can I reuse an ISBN if I fix a typo? Yes — a corrected reprint keeps the same ISBN. Only substantive changes to the content make it a new edition needing a new one.
Who does the ISBN belong to? It is registered against the publisher of record, JW Book, and is linked permanently to your title. Your copyright and royalty are unaffected by that.
What about the barcode? The barcode printed on the back cover is the ISBN in EAN-13 form. It is generated and placed during formatting at no extra cost.
Is an ISBN mandatory? Not legally — but without one no retailer can stock the book, no library can catalogue it and no sale can be attributed to you. In practice it is essential.

Discoverability

The Fields That Decide Who Finds Your Book

Every retailer, library and search engine sees your book through this record and nothing else. It takes twenty minutes to fill in properly and it outlives the launch by decades.

Catalogue record What retailers actually receive
Title
Groundwater Quality in Semi-Arid Gujarat
Searchable, and permanent. Retailers can correct a typo, but the title is what every citation to the book will carry forever.
Subtitle
A Decade of Monitoring Across Six Districts
Where the searchable specifics belong — region, method, period. A clever main title with a plain subtitle beats a clever title alone.
Author & ORCID
Surname, Given name  ·  0000-0002-XXXX-XXXX
Use the same form of your name as on your papers. An ORCID iD ties the book to the rest of your work even if you change institution or your name is a common one.
ISBN
978-93-XXXXX-XX-X
Issued free, one per format. This is the number a library or bookshop orders by.
CrossRef DOI
https://doi.org/10.XXXXX/…
The academic half of the pair. A CrossRef DOI makes the book citable and resolvable permanently, and is what Google Scholar and citation managers follow. Free on Affordable and above.
Subject codes
SCI081000  ·  TEC010000
BISAC categories decide which shelf — virtual or physical — the book is filed under. Two or three accurate codes work far better than a scattergun list.
Keywords
groundwater quality; fluoride contamination; semi-arid hydrology
Write the phrases a stranger would type, not the ones your abstract uses. Seven specific phrases outperform twenty generic ones.
Description
150–200 words, first sentence load-bearing
Retailers truncate after roughly two lines on mobile. Say what the book is and who it is for before the fold; save the credentials for the end.
Language & territory
English (India)  ·  Worldwide
Regional-language titles reach a smaller catalogue but a far less crowded one. Worldwide rights are the default unless you tell us otherwise.
Publisher
IJRTI (JW Publication)
Publisher of record for the ISBN. Your copyright and your 100% royalty are unaffected by this field.
Metadata is the only marketing that never expires. Advertising stops the day you stop paying for it; a well-chosen subtitle and an accurate set of subject codes keep working for as long as the book is listed. Get these right at submission — changing them afterwards means re-sending the record to every channel and waiting for each to refresh.
After Publication

What Happens Once the Book Is Out

Publication is a date; distribution is a rollout. Channels pick the book up at their own pace, and none of them announce it.

Day 0

ISBN assigned, files locked

The final interior and cover are approved by you and sent to print and to the distribution feed. From this point a change means a new edition, so this is the last proofread that matters.

Day 1–3

Author copies dispatched

Where your plan includes printed copies, they are produced and shipped. Standard and Premium include five; other plans can order print-on-demand copies at cost.

Week 1–2

Retail listings appear

Amazon and Flipkart pages go live and become orderable. New listings often show a longer dispatch estimate for the first few weeks — that is print-on-demand warming up, not a stock problem.

Week 2–6

Search and library indexing

Google Books, Play Books and the Ingram catalogue that feeds independent bookshops and library suppliers all refresh on their own schedules. Nothing needs doing during this window; it simply takes the time it takes.

Week 2–8

DOI resolves, citations become possible

Where a CrossRef DOI was registered, it starts resolving and the book becomes citable in the same way a journal article is. This is the point at which a thesis-derived book stops being a repository file and starts being a reference.

Month 2 onward

First sales reports

Retailers report and settle on their own cycles, typically 30–60 days behind the sale. Your royalty share is 100% — what arrives is the sale price less that retailer's own commission, the print cost and applicable tax.

Ongoing

The part only you can do

Add the book to your CV, your ORCID record, your institutional profile and your email signature. Mention it where your field gathers. For an academic title the first hundred readers almost always come from the author's own network — no distribution channel substitutes for that.

These windows are typical, not contractual. Each channel controls its own indexing schedule and none of them publish one. If a listing has not appeared after the window above, tell the editorial team and they will chase the feed — it is usually a metadata mismatch, and it is usually fixable in a day.
In Depth

Self-Publishing & Book Publication — A Complete Guide

Self-publishing has transformed the Indian publishing landscape, empowering authors to bring their stories, research and ideas to readers without waiting years for a traditional publisher's approval. JW Book, operated by IJRTI (JW Publication) — the same publisher behind IJRTI — is an affordable self-publishing platform offering manuscript formatting, cover design, ISBN registration and global distribution under one roof.

Whether you are a first-time author writing a debut novel, a researcher converting a thesis into a published monograph, a professor producing a textbook, or an institution publishing conference proceedings, JW Book provides the tools and infrastructure to publish professionally, affordably and quickly. The in-house Anvi-AI Book Creator platform can help accelerate the process by assisting authors in drafting, structuring and formatting manuscripts.

Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing

Traditional publishing houses typically take many months to a few years to evaluate, accept and print a manuscript, and commonly offer authors only a small percentage of royalty on net sales. Self-publishing puts the author in control from day one: you set your own book's direction, retain full copyright, and keep your royalty. The trade-off is that authors take on more of the upfront coordination themselves — which is exactly what a platform like JW Book is built to simplify.

FactorTraditional PublisherJW Book Self-Publishing

Where the Money Goes

The single largest difference between the two routes is not speed — it is what reaches the author out of each sale. The bars below show the author's share under each arrangement.

Traditional publisher contract~10%
Typical self-publishing platform~35–60%
JW Book — author's share100%
The first two bars are industry norms shown for comparison, not quoted offers — real contracts vary widely by publisher, territory and print run. The JW Book figure means that JW Book itself takes no cut of your royalty. Retailer commission, printing cost and applicable taxes are still deducted by the store that sells the copy, on that store's own published schedule, exactly as they are for every publisher.

ISBN vs. CrossRef/DataCite DOI — What's the Difference?

A book receives an ISBN, the standard identifier used by libraries, bookstores and distributors to catalogue and sell a physical or digital edition. A CrossRef/DataCite DOI serves a different purpose: it makes a work permanently citable in academic contexts, resolvable via https://doi.org/, and discoverable through Google Scholar and similar citation tools. Fiction and general-interest books typically only need an ISBN; academic, research and thesis-derived books benefit from adding a DOI alongside it.

JW Book's Place in the IJRTI (JW Publication) Family

JW Book (jwbook.org) is the book-publishing arm of IJRTI (JW Publication), the same publisher group behind IJRTI and its sister research journals. Where IJRTI and its affiliated journals focus on peer-reviewed research paper publication, JW Book focuses specifically on full-length book publication — academic monographs, theses converted to books, conference proceedings volumes, and general-interest titles across every genre.

That shared parentage is the reason a book published here arrives with academic infrastructure already attached rather than bolted on afterwards. IJRTI is a UGC CARE Approved Journal (ISSN 2456-3315, impact factor 10.57, publishing since 2016) operating to Scopus Standard editorial practice — transparent peer review, declared conflicts of interest, permanent open access and CrossRef DOI registration for every record. The same editorial office, the same DOI prefix and the same reviewer pool sit behind a JW Book title, which is why peer review of a book is something that can simply be added to a plan instead of arranged from scratch.

UGC CARE Journal Approved parent journal, IJRTI
CrossRef DOI Permanent, citable, resolvable
Scopus Standard Editorial and review practice
ISSN 2456-3315 Impact factor 10.57
Open Access Since 2016, no paywall
Which one do you need? If you're publishing a research paper, see IJRTI's journal publication (from ₹599). If you're publishing a full-length book — including a thesis expanded into a book or a conference proceedings volume — that's what JW Book (from ₹2,500) is for.

Who Publishes With Us

Six Kinds of Author, One Process

A thesis, a textbook and a poetry collection need different handling — the route through is the same.

Research Scholars

Turning a completed PhD thesis into a citable book — the single most common reason authors arrive here. ISBN plus an optional DOI makes it referenceable in its own right.

Faculty & Academics

Textbooks, reference works and edited volumes. Chapter-wise contributions from multiple authors are supported, each contributor credited.

Conference Organisers

Proceedings published as an edited volume with its own ISBN — see the conference proposal route.

Practitioners

Professional handbooks, case-study collections and industry guides drawn from working experience rather than formal research.

Poets & Fiction Writers

Literary work is published on the same terms — free ISBN, 100% royalty, and distribution alongside academic titles.

Regional Language Authors

Manuscripts in Indian languages are accepted and typeset. A regional-language book gets the same ISBN and distribution as an English one.

Why It Matters

What an ISBN Actually Buys You

 Without an ISBNWith an ISBN
Bookshop & retail listingNot possible — retailers order by ISBNListable on Amazon, Flipkart and 200+ stores
Library acquisitionLibraries cannot catalogue itCatalogued and orderable worldwide
Academic recognitionOften not counted for promotionsCounts as a formal publication
Citation by othersNo standard identifier to citeUnambiguous, permanent reference
Sales trackingNo royalty trailSales attributed to you across platforms
DiscoverabilityEffectively invisible to searchIndexed in bibliographic databases

ISBN and DOI do different jobs

An ISBN identifies the book as a physical and commercial object — it is what a shop, library or distributor orders against. A DOI identifies the content and resolves to it permanently online, which is what makes an academic work citable in a reference list. A research book benefits from both; a novel needs only the ISBN.

Most Common Route

Turning a Thesis Into a Book

A completed thesis is already the hard part. What remains is rewriting it for a reader who is not your examiner.

1

Strip the Apparatus

The literature-review chapter, the methodology justification and the “gap in the research” framing exist to satisfy examiners. A book reader does not need them at that length.

2

Lead With the Finding

A thesis builds to its conclusion; a book states it early and then shows the work. Chapter one becomes an argument, not a survey of everyone who wrote before you.

3

Rewrite for a Wider Reader

Define your field's vocabulary the first time it appears. Assume an intelligent reader from an adjacent discipline rather than three specialists on your committee.

4

Publish With ISBN & DOI

The finished book gets a free ISBN, an optional CrossRef/DataCite DOI, and a listing that makes it citable and orderable rather than filed in a university repository.

ElementIn the thesisIn the book
Opening chapterLiterature review, 40–60 pagesThe argument, 12–20 pages
MethodologyFull defence of every choiceSummarised; detail moves to an appendix
VoiceWritten for examinersWritten for readers in your field and next to it
CitationsExhaustive, to prove coverageSelective, to support the point being made
Typical length200–350 pages150–250 pages after restructuring
IdentifierRepository handle, if anyISBN, plus DOI where registered
Who can find itYour university's repositoryRetailers, libraries and citation databases

Is the thesis already published?

Check your university's deposit agreement before you begin. Most Indian universities require the thesis to be deposited in an institutional repository or in Shodhganga, and most explicitly permit later book publication of the same work — but the wording differs between institutions, and a small number ask to be acknowledged or notified. It is a five-minute check that prevents an awkward conversation after the book is in print.

Where chapters have already appeared as journal articles, the copyright position depends on what you signed. Open-access articles published under a CC BY licence — which is how IJRTI publishes — can normally be reused by their own authors with attribution. Articles assigned to a subscription publisher may need written permission first. Bring whatever agreements you have to the editorial team and they will tell you where you stand before any money changes hands.

How long does the rewriting take?

Realistically, a few weeks of your own work — longer than most authors expect, because it is judgement rather than typing. The production schedule shown earlier starts when you send a finished manuscript, not when you finish your viva. Authors who plan to publish often begin restructuring while the thesis is still under examination, when the material is freshest in their minds.

Why bother, if the thesis already exists?

A repository deposit is a record; a book is a publication. It carries an ISBN, appears in retail and library catalogues, counts as a formal publication in most academic promotion and API frameworks, and can be cited unambiguously by other researchers. It also reaches people who will never search a single university's repository — which, for most theses, is almost everybody.

Not sure the whole thesis should be a book? Sometimes the honest answer is that one strong chapter should be a research paper instead. If that is your case, publish it with IJRTI through journal publication and keep the book for when there is a book's worth of material. The editorial team will say so rather than sell you a plan you do not need.
