Abstract

The world is facing major increase in energy demand and energy consumption. By regenerating energy sources are considered as solution for both energy demand and environmental issues. Out of total heat supplied to the engine in the form of fuel, approximately 30 to 40% is converted into useful work and the remaining heat is expelled to the environment through exhaust gas and engine cooling system. So, it is required to utilize the waste into useful work. If this waste heat energy is tapped and converted into usable energy, the overall efficiency of an engine can be improved. Thermoelectric modules which are used as thermoelectric generators are solid state devices that are used to convert thermal energy from temperature gradient to electric energy and its work on the basic principle of seebeck effect. Ideal heat exchangers recover as much heat as possible from the engine exhaust at the cost of an acceptable pressure drop. They provide primary heat for TEG and their capacity and efficiency are dependent on material, shape and type of heat exchangers. Present research work aims to analyse the heat transfer and pressure drop for modified internal structure which can increase the performance of waste heat recovery thermoelectric generation system.
