Abstract: The impact of COVID-19 pandemic in Hyderabad, Telangana State on the air quality index before lockdown period and at the time of lockdown period were investigated and compared. The study which was conducted at six locations, before lockdown period from February to March 2021 and in lockdown period from April to May 2021. The important indicatory air pollutants were PM2.5, PM10, CO, O3, SO2, and NO2 for air quality index classes. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is one such tool for effective dissemination of air quality information to people. Before lockdown the mean combined data of air pollutants PM2.5, PM10, CO, O3, SO2 and NO2 for two months the AQI ranged from 114to 144 which indicated the moderate category. In lockdown period AQI ranged from 83 to102 which indicated satisfactory to moderate category. The compared AQI showed that before lockdown the air pollutants were high and in lockdown the concentration has reduced. It is clear that during COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control action period, the air quality in Hyderabad improved significantly.
