The corrosion inhibitive effect of ternarized extracts of strangler fig (Ficus thonningii) bark, Neem leaves (Azadirachta indica) and Bitter leaves (Vernonia amygdalina) and its blend as corrosion inhibitors on mild steel was studied. The quest to improve the corrosion inhibition efficiency property of inhibitors led to the ternarization (combination of three) of the extracts. The three extracts contain phytochemical constituents like the Alkaloids, Saponnins, Flavonoids, Glycosides, Polyphenols, Tannins at various percentages, it also contains the following functional group -COR, -COOH, -COCl, -OH, -OR, -COOR. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of the three organic extracts were studied individually before their combined effect was evaluated. After preliminary investigation, 40 % strangler fig bark, 30 % Neem leave and 30 % Bitter leave combination, ie Ternarization was used. The corrosion rate of mild steel in 1 M HCl medium, induced with 1.0 g/dm3 strangler fig bark extract, after 240 hours of exposure at room temperature is 0.86x 10-3 mm/yr, the corrosion rate of Neem and Bitter leaves after the same experimental condition are 0.805 x 10-3 mm/yr, and 0.829 x 10-3 mm/yr, respectively, while the corrosion rate for the ternarized samples is 0.581 x 10-3 mm/yr, the corrosion rate of the uninhibited sample is 17.07x 10-3 mm/yr. There is an improved corrosion inhibition property in the combination of three (ternarization) plant extracts.
