Emulsion is a biphasic liquid dosage form. These are of two types, oil in water and water in oil, it is a conventional method. Now-a-days novel dosage forms are used like microemulsions and Nano emulsions. This paper is an attempt to summarise comparative aspects like definition, theories, types, methods of preparations, limitations ,advantages, disadvantages and methods of analysis of micro-emulsion and nano-emulsion. This paper aims at clarifying the problem, first by reviewing all the physical and physicochemical fundamentals regarding these two systems ,using a quantitative thermodynamic approach for microemulsions and Nano emulsion.
