This article reports our initial work on the Michaelis-Menten type kinetics of reaction-acrylic acid with NCIN in aqueous acetic acid medium under lack of free radicals. The reaction followed first-order kinetics in [NCIN] and fractional-order for [H+]. The rate was found to increase with decrease in dielectric constant of the medium. The addition of reduced product of the oxidizing agent isonicotinamide produced negative response to reaction. The postulation of H2OCl+ prime reactive species leads the proposed mechanism in consistent with rate law.
