Abstract
Abstract- Malnutrition has become an urgent global health issue, with under nutrition killing or disabling millions of children each year. It is due to insufficient and imbalanced diet , poor knowledge about the balanced diet , sociocultural practices and poverty. India has high level of stunting, 35.5% children below five years were stunted and 32.1% were under weight. Among them stunted children 37.3% are in the rural areas as compared to 30.1% in urban areas. Anemia is also an important comorbidity in under-five children with severe acute malnutrition . It is a serious global public health problem that particularly affects young children and pregnant women. The prevalence of anemia in the under-five age group increases from 59% to 67.1% over the last 5 years. Assam has seen increase prevalence of anemia among children aged 6-59 months 32.7% to 68.4%. The government of India has strongly committed in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 to end hunger, improved nutrition and to reduce child mortality rate. Hence Government has devised several nutritional programmes and employed Anganwadi workers to provide additional and supplementary healthcare and nutritional services to children to overcome malnutrition and anemia. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding selected National Nutritional programme for children among Anganwadi worker at selected Anganwadi centre. Methodology: The analysis was a pre-experimental study conducted at selected Anganwadi centre Kamrup Rural Area, Assam. Data were collected from 58 Anganwadi workers by using purposive sampling technique method. Demographic proforma, a self-structured questionnaire on knowledge regarding selected National Nutritional Programme was utilized for gathering the data .The gathered data has been analysed using SPSS version 20. Result: The findings of the study revealed that out of 58 Anganwadi workers during pre-test majority 45(77.6%) had moderate knowledge and only 13(22.4%) had inadequate knowledge where as in post-test maximum 51(87.9%) had adequate knowledge and 7(12.1%) had moderate knowledge regarding selected National Nutritional Programme. The post-test mean knowledge score was 23.31±2.450 was higher than pre-test mean knowledge score was 13.86±2.970 with mean difference 9.44.The effectiveness was tested using paired t test with obtained test value (t=19.78) at df=57 was statistically significant at p<0.05 level .In demographic proforma Age was found to be significant at p<0.05 level of significance. Conclusion: Findings revealed that planned teaching programme was effective in improving the knowledge regarding selected National Nutritional Programme for children among Anganwadi workers.
