Abstract

Tourism has ample opportunities for entrepreneurship. It generates varieties of job opportunities thereby creating commercial space for various stakeholders resulting revenue generation. Job avenues in hospitality industry are expanding year by year which have created novel and potential areas of services resulting in the establishment of homestays. The job creation in this field does have its own nuances in the forms of advantages and several challenges along with its own strengths and weaknesses thereby posing multiple scopes for study in the commercial ecosystem of a particular economic zone. This paper seeks to investigate the existing challenges, glaring advantages, the inherent strengths and demerits the homestays do encounter as part of hospitality industry with respect to Kalasa Taluk of Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka state. This paper also intends to examine the prevailing challenges like real estate boom, infrastructure creation etc. and advantages like job creation, boost for private transport system and so on keeping in view of the privileges and disadvantages of the homestays as part of the hospitality industry expansion. To observe the commercial position of the entrepreneurs in the above mentioned hospitality industries in Kalasa Taluk of Chikkamagaluru district, an empirical research was conducted, the data was analyzed and based on the findings certain conclusion are drawn.
