Oral Conventional dosage forms provide no control over the release of the drug from the dosage form, resulting in variations in plasma drug levels; gastric emptying and gastric resident time are two other important factors that have a significant impact on the therapeutic efficacy of the drug and cause changes in the drug's retention time. As a result, floating microspheres are one of the most reliable and innovative approaches among all gastro-retentive drug delivery systems for overcoming these issues. Floating microspheres are gaining popularity due to their wide range of applications in drug delivery to the stomach, where they experience activity and are distributed uniformly over the gastric fluid to prevent gastric emptying fluctuations and increase drug liberationThe creation of novel controlled and delayed-release oral formulations is also made possible by this system, which furthers the advancements in pharmaceutical expansion. In summary, the current review states that the gastro-retentive drug delivery system is governed by the physiology of the intestinal gastric tract and its components. The purpose of this study is to shed light on contemporary research on topics such as the significance of floating microspheres in novel drug delivery systems, production techniques, floating microsphere differentiation, and new scientific developments in creating floating microspheres with various drug classes.
