Managing traditional pharmaceutical products is often a manual and error-prone process; This leads to inefficiencies, out-of-stock and expired medications, impacting costs and patient safety. This work addresses this gap through cost-effective real- time inventory tracking (RTITS) using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. By analyzing research data on RFID-based RTITS in the pharmaceutical setting, as well as reviewing the literature on existing research on RTITS, competition between pharmaceutical products, and cost analysis results, we will evaluate the trade-off of positive results (e.g., actual results). Ingest inventory in real-time, reduce waste and increase cost efficiency. Finally, this study aims to provide insight to pharmaceutical companies considering RTITS. The aim is to contribute to the development of reasonable costs and the correct management of products that are beneficial to patient safety, the pharmaceutical industry as well as the economy.
