These days, in order to increase patient compliance, safety, and efficacy, new dosage forms must be designed and developed. Buccal film is a new technology that satisfies each of these criteria. A buccal film Compared to other buccal drug delivery systems like wafers, lozenges, microparticles, gel, and tablets, buccal film is more palatable and acceptable due to its small size, dose, and easy administration. Buccal film avoids first pass metabolism, it is an efficient dose method that increases bioavailability. It is adequately adherent to buccal layer of oral cavity therefore it is more convenient than other dose form. It is affordable, biodegradable, quickly absorbed, manageable, non-irritating, and no requirement of swallowing. This article gives comprehensive review on benefits, limitation, manufacturing methods, evaluation parameters and formulation of buccal film.
