| Abstract: | Social security is an essential component of inclusive economic development. In a developing country like India, a large proportion of the population belongs to the unorganized and economically weaker sections, which remain highly vulnerable to financial shocks caused by illness, accidents, or death. Despite economic growth, insurance penetration in India has remained relatively low, especially in rural areas. Recognizing this gap, the Government of India introduced two major social security insurance schemes in 2015—Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). |
