Abstract: Education is universally recognized as a transformative tool for women’s empowerment, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate meaningfully in society. In this context, the Government of Uttarakhand introduced the Nanda Gaura Yojana in 2017 to address persistent gender-related challenges such as an imbalanced sex ratio, female feticide, child marriage, and low female literacy. By providing financial assistance at critical stages of a girl’s life, the scheme aims to reduce gender disparities and enhance the socio-economic status of women. The policy not only seeks to promote education but also to alter discriminatory social attitudes by fostering greater acceptance of the girl child. The present study evaluates the awareness, accessibility, and impact of the Nanda Gaura Yojana among its beneficiaries. Conducted in the Rudrapur block of Udham Singh Nagar district, the study engaged 100 respondents selected through a stratified random sampling technique. Findings reveal that the scheme has significantly contributed to the enrolment and retention of girls in educational institutions, encouraged higher education among girls from economically weaker families, reduced social discrimination, and helped improve the female sex ratio. However, implementation challenges persist, pointing to the need for greater awareness-building and effective monitoring mechanisms.
