A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIDEO ASSISTED TEACHING PROGRAMME(VATP) REGARDING CARDIO PULMONARY RESUSCITATION ON KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL AMONG STAFF NURSES WORKING IN SELECTED HOSPITALS BANGALORE
Sudden cardiac death is a major cause of death in today’s developed countries. In most cases, defibrillation and other means of advanced life support are not immediately available during this time victims can only rely upon CPR provided by educated bystanders. Objective-1.To evaluates the knowledge and skill of staff nurses regarding CPR. 2 .To evaluate the effectiveness of VATP on CPR.3. To find out association between knowledge regarding CPR among staff nurses with selected demographic variables.4. To find out association between skills regarding CPR among staff nurses with selected demographic variables.5.To find out correlation between knowledge and skill regarding CPR among staff Nurses. Methodology- quasi experimental research design was used with 50 sample selected by purposive sampling technique. Data collection- Self-instructional knowledge questionnaire for knowledge assessment and checklist for skill was used, data was analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Results- the Aspect wise Mean Pre-test and Post-test Knowledge on CPR.With regard to the general information on CPR, the mean percentage in pre-test was55.8 and in Post-test, it was 90.8 with an enhancement of 35. The‘t’ value was 10.95 and is found to be significant. When considering the procedure of CPR the pre-test mean value was 37.8 with a post-test mean of 77.8 and an enhancement of 40. The‘t’ value was 18.6 and found to be significant. The table shows the pre-test knowledge mean of complications of CPR as 30 and a post-test knowledge mean of 39.1 with a mean enhancement of 9.1. The‘t’ value was 7.9 and was found to be significant. With regard to the after care of CPR, the mean pre-test knowledge was 30 and the mean Post-test knowledge was 72 with an enhancement of 42. The ‘t’ value was 22.37 and is found to be significant. The level of significance was p< considered at 0.05 level. Conclusion: These study findings indicate that Video assisted Teaching Program was effective in enhancing the knowledge and skills of staff nurses regarding CPR.
