Abstract: Sustainable development goals are universal agenda to make the world a better place to live. There are 17 goals and each goal have its own indicators. This SDGs was agreed by 193 countries in the world. These 193 countries are having its own unique characteristics, fixing the same indicators for all the goal may not be relevant to achieve what is expected. Therefore, each country is expected to frame their goals regarding to their context. This is called as localization of the SDG. Human development report was developed by localizing the SDG into the Indian context. In the Human development report, Multi-dimensional poverty was classified by taking the indicators as standard of living, health and education. From these indicators all the indicators for the Sustainable development goals has been assessed with the samples of 59 by the cluster random sampling in Rajamadam Panchayat, Pattukottai block of Thanjavur district. In this study, eight goals are taken and it was localized with the help of the indicators that the human development report used. The goals are End poverty, Good health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean water and sanitation, Affordable and Clean energy, Decent work and Economic growth, Climate change. Because of the time and field difficulty constraints 59 samples were taken for this study. From the 59 samples the results for each goal has been found. For the goal of End poverty, indicators of the Multi-dimensional poverty were taken to assess this and the results was very shocking. There is a huge number of population still not having the basic amenities like proper cooking fuel, Toilet, Water connection, Electricity, Proper safe house roofing, minimum household assets to live a good comfortable life. From the samples 26% of the families are extremely poor and 37% of the families are above the poverty. For the goal of Good health and well-being in the coastal context most of the families are not taking food three times a day, they are skipping the afternoon meals and they are taking only in the morning and afternoon because of their livelihood. Alcohol consumption in this particular coastal panchayat was also higher and around 66% of the families at least one person in the family is taking alcohol. By analyzing the data of the alcohol intake, three time meals a day, with proper vegetable intake it was found that only 29% of the families are having good health practices and other remaining are not having good health practices. BMI of the students are taken and this also in a very bad shape, all the 100% of the samples are in underweight and this may be due to inadequate intake of food or skipping the meals in a day. The education of the highest education holder of the family and the health practices of the family was analyzed and the results are like the not studied family from the samples, 5 families (8%) of the family are in extremely poor health. And in the family of the degree holder, no one from the samples are in the extremely poor health. Thus the education of the family was influencing the health. The literacy of the people was in the phase of improving, the literacy of the age group from 18 to 30 was 93.3%. But still the quality of the education need to improved, in the class test which is conducted as a part of research none of the students scored 5 out of 5 for the simple arithmetic problem solving. The attendance of the school children was also very low and the Head Mistress stated that “They are forced to do the false attendance to promote their students to the next level.” Education of a family is one of the important factor which is deciding the particular family’s Multi – dimensional poverty. In the Multi-dimensional poverty, bad performing households mostly consists of not studied members and in the degree holder’s family there is no bad and average performing families found from the samples. In this coastal context, the dropout of the children from the school from my samples was noticeably high. From the 50 respondents, 30% of the children are dropouts out of which 20% are male and 10% are female child. The attendance also showing that the male children are not showing interest to the school. Gender equality is expressed in many ways, one of the ways in which it express was the occurrence of the child marriage where the girl child will be given responsibilities to handle a family and in turn their education was stopped. During the child period, they were not in a position to give birth to the children and it leads to IMR, MMR. Such kind of practices are still found in this village even after lot of awareness was given by the different level of the stake holders. Clean water and sanitation was one of the important thing for a community to lead a better life. In this village still there are lot of improvements needed in this particular sanitation. From the sample of 59 samples, only 29% of the families are in the better off and the remaining are all poor and extremely poor. Access to the electrical usage and the electrical connection from the recognized provider was not up to the mark and there are still gaps in that, 22% of the families are not having proper electricity from the recognized provider. The income of the coastal context was very diverse and the range of the lower to higher was very distant. There are some days a fishermen come to his home with his empty hand and there are some days that he will come with lot of money in his hand which can be useful to manage for a whole week. The Gini coefficient index 0.43 and the lorrenz curve area was very huge which is indicating the high income inequality. Disaster is an occurrence which make the community under the pressure. Vulnerabilities and hazards are affecting the community during the disaster and the capacity of the community to with stand the disaster is the only key to overcome or reduce the impact of the disaster. This coastal community was recovering in slow and only 5% of the families from the sample are recovering faster and the remaining families were recovering either in the medium or very slow speed. The community attitude of readiness towards the disaster was very much changed after the incidence of the Gaja cyclone. Before the cyclone around 41% of the families from the samples didn’t went to disaster safety building before the cyclone strikes and now the people are expressing that if a disaster announcement came around 85% of the people will go for the disaster building and 12% of the family will go for the disaster safety building or migrate to the relative’s home in other districts. Resilience of this coastal community, was not so bad. 12% of the families are bad in the resilience and the other 25% of the families are good in the resilience where their financial losses are less and it made them too easy to procure the loss ones.
