Rainfall is one of the climatic variables that varies the greatest in both time and space. In order to understand the micro-level variability and plan future water management activities, it is essential to analyze the rainfall distribution over an area since rainfall characteristics vary from one region to another. Therefore, monitoring its nature and trend at any location is essential for conserving land and water for future use. Geographical Information System (GIS) Software is an effective tool used to create spatial distribution of rainfall using a variety of rainfall data characteristics. This spatial rainfall data can be employed as input for a different kind of simulation studies, particularly runoff and hydrological modelling. The rainfall characteristics of the Hyderabad city, including its spatial distribution and seasonal variations, are therefore studied in the present study. The annual and seasonal rainfall patterns are spatially analyzed over a period of 31 years, from 1990 to 2020 by using statistical tools and GIS interpolation techniques.
