| Abstract: | Alcohol is a sedative drug and alcoholism an addiction. The scourge of alcoholism is eating away the vitals of society. There is a huge public concern and a moral panic over drug and alcohol epidemic in India, especially young people and the abusers indulging in violent and sexual crimes. It also affected the social, economic, spiritual, psychological and cultural aspects of the society. Alcohol dependence has been identified as one of the significant disabling social and mental health problems suffered by individuals with serious implication in the family. Keeping in view the gravity of the situation the present study attempts to understand the circumstances which attract the people towards the substance abuse prevention and treatment centers and its economic impacts. |
