Formaldehyde has been recently declared as a potential carcinogen. In an effort to rid the dissection room of the irritating and potentially health-threatening toxic chemicals, the phenoxyethanol technique has been modified for long-term preservation of cadavers. The reason behind this study is to be aware of the practical dangers when using formaldehyde and the uses of phenoxyethanol as a better option for the preservation of anatomical specimens. Hence the need for an alternative agent is required for preservation. Phenoxyethanol has been found to have superior qualities which state that it can be used for preservation of anatomic specimens. The aim of this review is to do a literature review on phenoxyethanol as a substitute for formaldehyde in the preservation of anatomical specimens.
