Abstract: Concrete is a composite construction material widely used for the construction of buildings and other structures. As per need the concrete has been added with various admixtures to achieve a modified specific property. Fire exposures lead to concrete being subjected to elevated temperatures. The influence of temperatures on the properties of concrete is therefore very significant in the fire resistance study. Degradation of strength is observed in concrete when subjected to elevated temperature at temperature of 500ºC and above all concretes deteriorate rapidly. Under saline environment exposure concrete set to expand which leads to spalling and cracking. Carbonation and chloride ion ingress leads to a favourable environment for corrosion causing deterioration in concrete and corrosion of the reinforcement. Last decade has seen that high strength concrete (HSC) is being widely used in place of normal strength concrete (NSC) since it possesses significant economic, architectural structural and durability advantages over conventional NSC. With the increased use of HSC, concern has developed regarding the behaviour of such concretes under extreme conditions of exposure.
