Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Pamphlet on Knowledge Regarding Intra Uterine Contraceptive Devices among Post Natal Mothers in Queen Mary Hospital, Lucknow, U.P.
Introduction:
Postpartum contraception is the best evidence-based intervention in prevention of pregnancy and abortion related maternal morbidity and mortality in the developing countries. The unmet need for contraception among women in the postpartum period can be effectively fulfilled by postpartum insertion of IUCD, in a single visit under the government scheme of providing free maternity service during institutional delivery.
Objective:
The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of pamphlet regarding IUCD among the postnatal mothers.
Method: Quasi experimental one group pre-test post-test research design was used among 80 postnatal mothers in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Queen Mary Hospital KGMU, Lucknow.
Result: It has revealed that at appropriate degree of freedom i.e.79 (p= 0.05) researcher rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis as the calculated value i.e. 3.85 lied beyond the critical value i.e. 1.98.
Conclusion: The study highlights the need for improving the knowledge regarding IUCD by continuous and intensive health education programmes with the help of pamphlet targeting the postnatal mother which in turn will have a positive impact on their knowledge regarding IUCD.
