Abstract: Drug targeting to specific sites creates a challenging task for the formulation designer. These problems may be solved by the formulating the vesicular carrier system with in micro size range. Microsponges is microtechnology based formulation which offers controlled release of drug at the target site. Budesonide is a glucocorticoid steroid used for the treatment of several colonic diseases like chron’s disease, ulcerative disease and colon cancer. The low water solubility and poor bioavailability of budesonide is the challenging problem facing by the formulation scientist. It can be overcome the above problem by increase the solubility to increase the dissolution rate as well as bioavailability. The small size and porous nature of the novel delivery system they can easily bind to poorly-soluble drugs within their matrix and prevent drug from rapid metabolism and excreation, improve their bioavailability. The microsponges of budesonide is prepared by quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion method. Further the formulated microsponges are evaluated for its phase particle size determination, Loading Efficiency, Production Yield, SEM, FTIR, DSC, XRD and in-vitro release study.
Keywords: Microsponges, Budesonide targeting drug delivery and colloidal carrier.
