Chalcones have a variety of biological activity and are a significant component of many natural sources. The acetophenones and various aromatic aldehydes were used in the synthesis of various chalcones by optimised methods of sonication. TLC was used to monitor the reaction, and IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopic methods were used to describe the synthesised products. Finally, the compounds were screened for their ability to inhibit the growth of microbes.
