Abstract: Abstract Ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is an innovative combination of fibers and cement-based engineered material. The materials used in UHPFRC depend on the desired characteristics and the availability of suitable economic materials. Based upon the interaction between the two components i.e., concrete matrix and fibers, the rheological and mechanical properties of UHPFRC will vary. The important parameters that have significant influence on the setting time, workability and mechanical properties of UHPFRC are the fiber material, aspect ratio, fiber distribution, fiber percentage and fiber orientation. The findings of the study are useful for practicing engineers and the researchers to understand the distinctive characteristics of UHPFRC. However, due to increase in dosage of fibers, it may also have negative effects on the properties of concrete, such as the workability, which may get reduced. The addition of fibers, particularly steel fibers, due to their conductivity leads to a significant reduction in the electrical resistivity of the concrete and it also results in some reduction in the chloride penetration resistance of the concrete. This review focuses on the fibers’s physical and chemical compositions, mechanical and durability characteristics, mechanism of crack formation and propagation, fire resistance and environmental benefits of UHPFRC. The review also discusses the essentials recommendation for future research on UHPFRC.
Keywords: Ultra-high-performance concrete, fibers, fiber orientation angle, fiber percentage, aspect ratio, setting time, workability, loading rate, durability, electrical resistivity, chloride penetration
