Abstract: A platform is a group of technologies that acts as a base for the development of other applications, methods, or technologies. Platform technologies are a beneficial tool for improving the productivity and quality of drug product development. The basic thought is that a platform, along with a risk-based approach, is the most efficient method for leveraging previous understanding for a new molecule. Moreover, such a platform technology allows a constant development through addition of data for each new molecule produced using this approach, thereby increasing the robustness of the platform. Following are some commonly used platform technologies: 1.Nanotechnology, 2.Liposomal technology, 3.Hot melt extrusion, 4.Sustained release formulations technology, 5.Orally disintegrating formulations technology, 6.Inhalation technology.
