With rare expectations, girls are more likely than male to experience depressive disorder, with symptoms starting around mid-adolescence and lasting throughout adulthood. According to epidemiological studies women (21.3%) have a much higher lifetime prevalence of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) than men (12.7%). This ratio has been studied across numerous nations and ethnicities. Mood and Anxiety Disorders are commonly treated with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs).
