Abstract: Yoga is an ancient practice composed of Yogic Asanas, Pranayama techniques and Meditation which aim to attain the mind body balance leading to many physical and mental benefits. The main purpose of yoga is to be able to realise self potential, to be in tune with self while living in the present moment. This principle is of utmost importance, when we discuss the effects and consequences of disability and a promising role of yoga in solving the issues related with the persons with disabilities particularly the amputees. This research integrates prosthetic rehabilitation with yogic practices of asanas and pranayama in a phenomenological perspective with qualitative approaches. This establishes that yogic practices can be very useful for the amputees to reduce stress and anxiety by shifting their attention from fright or flight mode to a relaxed mind body harmony state. This theoretical approach can be further used to develop an evidence based amputee yogic programme aimed to regain self esteem and diginity of amputees along with preparing the amputees for prosthetic fitting. This research also proposes the adamant instances of the efficacy of yoga in the overall general well-being of amputees and their improved perception of self image by using prosthesis.
