The management of teak forests in Indonesia is one activity that significantly prevents climate change risks. The reduction in the number of teak stands due to logging is one of the reasons for the decline in carbon stocks in Indonesian forests. One of the efforts to control farmer activities in forest management that are not environmentally friendly is by discovering behavioural determinants. This quantitative study involves 200 farmers in the two largest sub-districts in South Buton Regency. Respondent's answers to the questionnaire became primary data which were then analysed using the Structural Equation Model. The analysis results illustrate that farmer motivation is a factor in forest management behaviour. Furthermore, economic motivation is the main basis for farmers in conducting nurseries, tree maintenance, land management and logging.
