The present study focuses on the mechanical properties of hybrid
composite laminates made from various plant fibers, namely sisal, water hyacinth,
and jute, in combination with epoxy resin. The plant fibers were treated and
processed before being moulded into composite laminates using a compression
moulding machine. The mechanical properties of the fabricated composite
laminates were investigated by conducting hardness, tensile, impact, and
compressibility tests. Among the above-mentioned plant fibers, 30% sisal fiber
reinforced composite showed the highest mechanical properties. The study also
showed that the mechanical properties of the composite laminates were influenced
by the fiber content and the orientation of the fibers. Overall, this study highlights
the potential of using natural plant fibers as reinforcing materials in composite
laminates for various engineering applications.
