This project involves the localization of the eyes in facial images using a MATLAB program. The purpose is to detect whether the eyes are open or closed and to identify drowsiness in individuals. The main objective of this study is to enhance road safety and prevent accidents by detecting driver drowsiness. Currently, driver fatigue significantly contributes to a large number of vehicle accidents. Statistics indicate that approximately 1,200 fatalities and 76,000 injuries occur annually due to crashes related to fatigue. Therefore, developing technologies that can detect and prevent drowsiness while driving is crucial in the field of accident prevention systems. Effective methods must be devised to mitigate the risks associated with drowsiness. This project aims to create a prototype drowsiness detection system. The primary focus is to design a real-time monitoring system capable of accurately determining whether the driver's eyes are open or closed. By monitoring the eyes, it is possible to identify signs of driver fatigue early on and potentially prevent car accidents. The detection of drowsiness involves analyzing patterns of facial images, including eye movements and blink rates. The analysis of facial images is a well-established research domain with diverse applications such as face recognition, virtual tools, and human identification security systems.
