Since heterocyclic compounds are crucial in the discovery and development of new drugs, great efforts have been made to create practical and environmentally friendly methods for their high yielding production. This chapter focuses solely on the solvent-free synthetic methodologies used for the production of heterocyclic skeletons of potential pharmacological importance due to the significant negative effects of toxic organic solvents on health, the environment, safety, and overall product cost. In order to make bioactive heterocyclic molecules and commercially available pharmaceuticals, it mostly entails the synthesis of heterocycles that include nitrogen and oxygen.
