Ultraviolet spectroscopy is one of the most important and advance analytical instrument in pharmaceutical industry .many different types of materials can be characterized using UV-Spectroscopy. It is used since last 35 years. spectroscopy is generally preferred especially by small scale industries as the cost of the equipment is less and the maintenance problems are minimal. The method of analysis is based on measuring the absorption of a monochromatic light by colorless compounds in the near ultraviolet path of a spectrum (200- 400nm). The processes required to ascertain the identity , strength, quality and purity of such substance are included in the pharmaceutical analysis. It also comprise the analysis of raw material and intermediates during the process of manufacturing of drugs. The dissociation constants is a crucial factor in the development and optimization of a novel molecule for successful formulation development. The ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy is used to obtain the absorbance spectra of a compound in a solution or as a solid.
