Dr. John Todd first used the term “Alice in Wonderland Syndrome” in 1955. Alice in Wonderland Syndrome (AIWS), initially described by Todd, is a perceptual disorder that mainly affects the integration of visual and somesthetic stimuli. It is based on Lewis Carroll's descriptions of bizarre experiences in his Alice in Wonderland books. Todd’s Syndrome and Dysmetropsia are other names for Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. It is a perceptual disorder caused by a neuropsychiatric disorder. It is commonly associated with migraines, head trauma, viral encephalitis, and drug addiction. This syndrome can present as teleopsia, macropsia, micropsia, and other perceptual distortions.
