| Abstract: | Crime is a dynamic concept that evolves alongside shifting social paradigms, serving as an inherent aspect of all societies. Over time, crime has adapted in response to changing societal conditions, mirroring the progress of human society. This evolution has given rise to diverse schools of criminology, culminating in the establishment of criminology as a distinct field of knowledge. A parallel has emerged between human geography and criminology, reminiscent of criminology's historical alignment with sociology due to paradigm shifts. The present study is a literature based study attempted towards the theoretical or pure field of criminology to understand the explanatory theories systematically, describing the causalities of crime and criminality. It was necessary to organize, arrange, and integrate these heterogeneous components known to be related to crime and criminality. The scientific explanations for criminal behavior are expressed in diverse theories referred to as “Schools of Criminology.” |
