Abstract: Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most broadly consumed staple crop for almost half of the world’s population. Bioinoculants are the optimistic remedy for replacing chemical fertilizers and insecticides in crop production. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) represent a vital group of root symbionts of higher plants, as they provide a range of soil nutrients (e.g. N and P) to plants in exchange for plant carbohydrates. Most soils around the globe are potassium deficient. The potassium solubilizing bacteria (KSB) can able to release soluble potassium from K-bearing minerals, therefore making the unavailable potassium available to the plants in soluble form. About 15 rhizosphere soil samples of rice were collected from different locations of the Veeranam command area, Cuddalore District to isolate, characterize, and screen viable mycorrhizal inoculant and efficient potassium solubilizing bacteria. For this investigation, the best isolates were formulated as single and dual inoculants and evaluated in pot culture conditions, including AM fungi (Glomus fasciculatum) and potassium solubilizing bacteria (Frateuria aurantia) (KSBR-12). The treatment, T10 (75 % NPK + Glomus fasciculatum + Potassium Solubilizing Bacteria) was the most successful inoculation of rice among all the thirteen treatments and it significantly increased the growth and yield of rice variety BPT-5204 by enhancing the nutritional status, especially P and K status of the plants. Hence, this study recommends farmers to reduce the use of inorganic fertilizers by 25 %, when AM fungi and Potassium Solubilizing Bacteria are used.
