Abstract: Pottery is one of the essential components for understanding cultural sequence and reconstructing history. It reflects the growth and progress of human civilisation as well as the social and cultural fabric of life of ancient Indian people. Patna produces a lot of potsherds all around, but a significant portion of this archaeological antiquity was undocumented; however, the two archaeological operations of the previous century (Altekar and Mishra at Kumrahār in 1951-55 and Sinha and Narain in Patna-City areas in 1955-56) produce a good deal of potsherds which are well-documented. The data from the reports on these archaeological zones are used as source material for the research. Historically, the style shapes, firing techniques, material, and colours of pottery vary with various cultures, and this research analyses these features for those potteries found in Patna. Multiple types of potteries like NBPW, Grey, Red, Black-and-red, Black, and Ochre-Coloured are found here, which might represent different cultures, so this study focuses on understanding the pottery sequences and their popularity, frequency, and disappearance over the periods.
