Abstract: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across various sectors has ignited debates concerning its potential impact on employment dynamics. This paper delves into the historical context of technological advancements and synthesizes recent research findings to provide a nuanced understanding of the intricate relationship between AI and employment. While apprehensions about technology-induced job losses have persisted throughout history, evidence suggests that the interaction between technology and demand plays a pivotal role in shaping employment outcomes. Recent research indicates a surge in AI-related job postings; however, establishments embracing AI exhibit reduced overall hiring rates, underscoring the displacement effects of automation. Looking ahead, the advent of generative AI presents both opportunities for productivity enhancements and uncertainties regarding job displacement and the emergence of novel occupations. Through an exhaustive literature review, this paper aims to unravel the multifaceted effects of AI on employment and offer insights into navigating the evolving terrain of work.
