Background: Good healthy nutrition is vital for every child's growth and development.2 Insufficient intake of calories (a measure of energy the body needs), protein (necessary to build muscle and to keep the body healthy), iron (for appropriate blood cell function) as well as different types of nutrients can cause malnutrition. In a person’s intake of energy as well as nutrient imbalances, excesses or deficiencies are referred to as malnutrition. Objective: To assess the nutritional status of under-five children attending selected Anganwadi centers (AWCs). To explore the factors responsible for underweight, stunting, and wasting in children attending selected Anganwadi centers (AWCs). Methodology: cross sectional study- quantitative research design was used among 222 children of among under five children in selected Anganwadi centers Barabanki. total enumerative sampling technique was used for the selection of study subjects. anthropometric measurement ware done for assessment for prevalence of malnutrition. and Predesigned questionnaire was used to assess association of nutritional status.
Result: the prevalence of stunting, wasting and underweight were found to be 14.37% , 7.80% and 12.78%. 36 cases ware malnourished. 26 ware moderate acute malnutrition and 10 ware severe acute malnutrition respectively. age of father, occupation of father, children suffer from worm infestation, deworming not done, intake open container water, intake vegetarian diet, inappropriate intake protein and calorie diet were associated with malnutrition. Conclusion: the finding of this review indicate that malnutrition is still an important problem in children. there is a need for concerned to improve the nutritional status in among under five children.
