Paper Title:
An Experimental Study to Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Warm Water Foot Soak On Blood Pressure Among People With Hypertension In Selected Old Age Home, Kanyakumari
Abstract: A true experimental study to evaluate the effectiveness of warm water foot soak on blood pressure among people with hypertension in selected old age homes, Kanyakumari district. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of warm water foot soak on blood pressure among people with hypertension.
Materials and Methods: A true experimental pretest posttest control group design was adopted for the study. Pretest and posttest blood pressure was assessed with sphygmomanometer. sixty people were selected using slovin’s formula and 30 peoples with hypertension were allotted into study group and 30 people in control group with the help of simple random sampling method. Warm water foot soak was given once a day for five days in the morning for the study group and control group doesn’t receive any intervention. The data collection done with the help of sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Mean, standard deviation and paired ‘t’ test was used to evaluate the effect of warm water foot soak on hypertension. The comparison of postintervention blood pressure in study group and control group was analyzed by unpaired ‘t’ test. Chi square test used to find out the association between the blood pressure and demographic variables and clinical variables of the samples.
Results: The study results showed that in study group the mean postintervention blood pressure (139.43/ 78.46 mm of Hg) was lower than mean preintervention blood pressure (153.83/90.76 mm of Hg), Which showed that there was significant difference between the mean preintervention assessment and postintervention assessment in study group. Whereas the mean postintervention blood pressure in study group (139.43/ 78.46 mm of Hg) was lower than mean postintervention blood pressure of control group (154.28/ 91.20 mm of Hg). Unpaired ‘t’ value for systolic blood pressure was 5.646 and for diastolic blood pressure was 11.96 and the p value was 3.46, which was significant at p≤0.05 and is highly significant at p≤0.01, p≤0.001. This represents the effectiveness of warm water foot soak in reduction of blood pressure.
Conclusion: According to the results, using warm water foot soak considerably reduces the blood pressure, which revealed that warm water foot soak was one of the important and effectiveness intervention in reducing blood pressure.
