The worldwide spread of the coronavirus epidemic in the year 2020 woke people up from their long oblivious sleep and forced them to take a break from their fast-paced lives and busy schedules and start looking after their health and well-being. The highly contagious disease brought the importance of remaining healthy and fit to the forefront. The popularity of ‘Health and Fitness’ reached its maximum level during the pandemic period, with everyone utilizing the time and space of their homes to get in shape and boost their immunity. But the ‘luxury’ to look after one’s health and fitness was only available to a few, as most of the human population was struggling to find a roof over their head and earn a livelihood. Thus, it was the ‘idea’ of ‘Health and Fitness’ that became popular, but its practice was only limited to a few. So, keeping this problem of ‘accessibility’ and ‘affordability’ in mind, how does one make health and fitness popular not just in name but also in practice, how does one ensure that one actually remains healthy and fit in such a society that prevents one to do so, how to remain healthy despite the societal constraints, is following the ‘popular’ healthy methods and trends the only way to remain healthy, and is it possible to be healthy without spending much time and money? The following paper tries to answer some of these questions with the help of Pilar Gerasimo’s ‘convention-busting’ 2020 book, “The Healthy Deviant: A Rule Breaker’s Guide to Being Healthy in an Unhealthy World,” and tries to showcase how the so-called ‘popular’ methods to stay healthy are not always the best way to go.
