Hyperlipidemia is a metabolic disorder that affects the serum lipid and lipoprotein profiles. It is characterized by a quantitative increase in the net levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TAG), very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL-C), and low-density lipoproteins (LDL-C), along with a concurrent reduction of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) concentrations in the bloodstream. It is one of the primary risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and has a notable effect on atherosclerosis. The present review gives an information on fundamentals of Hyperlipidemia which includes Introduction, Lipids and Lipoproteins, Epidemiology, Classification, Symptoms, Complications, Risk factors, Pathophysiology, Treatment, and new drugs to target hyperlipidemia.
