Even though there are a number of drawbacks, oral drug delivery is still the preferred method of medication distribution, hence ease of administration and increased patient compliance are significant design factors. The creation of "mouth dissolving tablets" (MDTs), which dissolve quickly in the mouth without the need for water in a matter of seconds owing to the action of a superdisintegrants or the formulation's optimization of pore structure, can help alleviate one such issue in the innovative drug delivery system. When it comes to children, the elderly, and people with mental illnesses who have trouble swallowing regular tablets and capsules, mouth dissolving tablets are very helpful. In addition to different excipients, assessment tests, commercialized formulation, and medications utilized in this study area, the review also highlights the numerous formulation elements, superdisintegrants used, and technologies developed for MDTs.
