AIM:
This study was conducted on antibiotic stewardship to assess the use of antibiotics and their
effectiveness
METHODOLOGY:
A prospective study was conducted for period of 6 months, a total of 105 patients were
involved in the study. The antibiotic stewardship study was conducted by collecting patient
profile chart, followed by assessment of patient culture report, medication chart and physician
progress note.
RESULT:
This study contain 105 patients out of which 64 male patients and 41 female patients. The
study showed out of 105 prescriptions 59.04% followed hospital guideline and 40.95% were
prescribed out of guideline, and out of 181 prescribed antibiotics 48(26.52%) were prescribed
empirically before assessing culture report. The irrational combination of antibiotics was not
found in this study. 162(89.50%) of prescribed antibiotics was shown effective during the
study and the remaining 19(10.49%) were ineffective.
