ABSTRACT
This study examines the awareness of interest rate differences between fixed deposits (FDs) and savings accounts among public and private sector employees in Jharkhand. Fixed deposits typically offer higher interest rates than savings accounts, making them a preferred choice for long-term investments. Using primary data from 640 respondents (320 from each sector), the study highlights differences in understanding based on sector and gender.
Findings reveal that 67.50% of public sector employees and 76.88% of private sector employees correctly identified that FDs provide higher interest rates. Female respondents in both sectors displayed slightly higher awareness levels compared to males. Misunderstanding was minimal, with less than 11% in either sector responding incorrectly. However, a notable proportion of public sector employees (22.19%) were uncertain, compared to only 14.38% in the private sector. The study underscores the importance of financial literacy initiatives to bridge gaps in understanding and promote informed financial decision-making.
