Poor water solubility limits the oral bioavailability of many BCS Class II drugs like Telmisartan. This study aims to enhance the solubility and dissolution rate of Telmisartan using inclusion complexes with Complexol-B (β-cyclodextrin) and Complexol-HP (hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin). Complexes were prepared by kneading and co-evaporation methods in various drug-to-polymer ratios. Characterization was done using FTIR, DSC, PXRD, SEM, and UV-spectroscopy. Phase solubility studies confirmed increased solubility, particularly with Complexol-HP. The optimized complexes showed significantly improved dissolution compared to the pure drug and marketed formulations. Thus, cyclodextrin complexation is a promising strategy to improve solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs.
