Biometric systems are increasingly used for identity verification due to their reliability and ease of use. However, these systems are vulnerable to presentation attacks (a.k.a. spoofing), where a fake biometric sample (like a printed face image or silicone fingerprint) is presented to the sensor. This paper explores the use of Image Quality Assessment (IQA) techniques to detect such fake attempts. IQA methods analyze biometric image characteristics to distinguish between live and spoof samples.
