Abstract: Moving from a monolith to a microservices structure helps modern software be more flexible, scalable and easy to maintain. I evaluate popular migration techniques, examining refactoring approaches, principles of architecture and the way organizations work. Domain-driven decomposition, automated refactoring software and containerization are all technical methods to reduce the connections between all modules, making them deployable separately. Research has shown that reduced dependencies between teams can lead to more frequent releases and better ability to identify issues and DevOps using pipelines makes more frequent deployments and an overall decrease in defects possible. With principles such as bounded contexts and API gateway patterns, you learn about how to break services into smaller manageable components, but organizational recommendations advise on forming new teams, selecting governance modes and developing skills that fit the microservices system. Issues remain in figuring out the best services, handling consistent data in several service platforms and connecting teams to service-based structures.
