Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) is a gastrointestinal tract disorder characterized by the erosion of the stomach and duodenum lining, caused by an imbalance between aggressive factors, including acid and pepsin, and protective factors, such as prostaglandins, blood flow, and cell regeneration. Aggressive factors, including alcohol misuse, smoking, Helicobacterpylori colonization, and the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, contribute to the development of PUD. The disease can lead to severe complications, such as perforation and death, resulting in significant public health expenses and affecting a substantial portion of the population. Understanding the Etiologic and pathogenesis of PUD is crucial for the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies, reducing the burden of this disease on public health and improving patient outcomes. This study aims to provide an overview of the current knowledge on PUD, highlighting the interplay between aggressive and protective factors, and discussing the implications for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
