Abstract: Abstract Religion continues to play a significant role in shaping political, social, and cultural life across Africa. In East Africa, religious identity often intersects with ethnicity and politics, particularly during electoral periods, sometimes contributing to tension, mistrust, and violence. This paper examines the importance of interfaith dialogue as a mechanism for promoting political tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion in East Africa. It further explores the emerging role of the United Arab Emirates in promoting global interfaith engagement and tolerance diplomacy. Through cultural initiatives, international forums, and peace-oriented diplomacy, the UAE has increasingly positioned itself as a global advocate for coexistence and moderation. The paper argues that structured interfaith engagement can strengthen democratic stability by reducing religious polarization and encouraging inclusive political participation. It also highlights the role of religious leaders, educational institutions, and civil society organizations in peacebuilding efforts. Drawing lessons from the UAE model, the paper proposes that East African countries should institutionalize interfaith dialogue mechanisms, strengthen inclusive governance, and invest in socio-economic development to support sustainable peace. The study concludes that political tolerance cannot flourish without continuous dialogue, responsible leadership, and collaborative efforts among religious communities, governments, and international partners.
