Abstract: Cocos nucifera L. (coconut) is a widely distributed tropical plant known for its nutritional, industrial, and medicinal significance. Among its various components, the coconut husk (mesocarp), traditionally considered an agricultural by-product, has gained attention due to its rich content of lignocellulosic materials and bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, tannins, and flavonoids . Studies have demonstrated that coconut husk extracts exhibit important biological activities, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties, highlighting its potential in pharmaceutical applications . Advances in extraction techniques, such as solvent-based and ultrasound-assisted methods, have further improved the recovery of these compounds. However, challenges such as variability in composition, lack of standardization, and limited clinical evidence remain barriers to its large-scale utilization. This review provides an overview of the botanical, physicochemical, phytochemical, and pharmacological aspects of coconut husk and emphasizes its future potential as a sustainable and valuable medicinal resource.
