The oxidation kinetics of cyclopentanol by N-bromosuccinimide in aqueous acetic acid and micellar medium proceeds through a mechanism involving α-C-H bond cleavage was envisaged in transition state via an intermediate complex. The micellar cetyltrimethylammonium bromide acts as solvent as well as catalysis and participating in formation ternary complex. The rection shows first-order kinetics with respect to disappearance of [NBS] and fractional-order both, each with cyclopentanol and [H+] concentration. The stoichiometric ratio Δ[NBS]/ Δ[substrate] was assigned 1:1. Several kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were discussed.
